Best Restaurants in Bend Oregon

There must be over 300 restaurants in Bend Oregon. One could eat out every day for almost a year and not go to the same restaurant twice.
These are what I consider some of the best restaurants in Bend, Oregon. There are many other excellent restaurants that are not mentioned here but what I have attempted to do is present a few with different types of cuisine and in different price ranges for those people who are unfamiliar with Bend.
I have not had the opportunity to visit some of the new restaurants in Bend, Oregon. Two that I have heard about being really good are Volo and Pastini Pastaria. Volo is upscale and very expensive. Pastini Pastaria serves pasta in the Old Mill District and is reasonably priced.
Of course, Bend has the full range of the large chain restaurants from McDonalds to Appleby's.
Pizzicato Gourmet Pizza
For a crunchy thin crust pizza go to Pizziacato located in Ray's Foodplace Shopping Center. Choose from a variety of traditional pizza toppings as well as chicken and fish. Vegetarians are well taken care of with a choice of nine veggie pizzas. Along with your pizza you can have starters such as Hummus Plate, Roasted Garlic, or a salad. Both hot and cold Panini are also served.

Red Dragon Chinese Restaurant and Lounge
It's not every Chinese Restaurant where you have the choice of Szechuan, Hunan, Mongolian, and Cantonese dishes but you do at the Red Dragon and they are all good. This is a restaurant where you have leftovers that you really do want to take home and you will also look forward to eating them. At $8.95 to $15.95 a plate this has got to be Bend's best bargain. The location leaves a lot to be desired and the entrance is awkward but it is very worth the effort. They do have a drive-through window for take-out orders if you would rather eat at home. If your party is large, it is a good idea to make a reservation.
Red Dragon Chinese Restaurant & Lounge
Fresh flowers, candlelight, an upscale menu that delivers as promised and upscale prices. This is the kind of restaurant you would be more likely to find in a large city. The wine list is extensive and the wait staff have been well trained. I definately recommend that you go but be sure to make reservations as this is a small restaurant.
This is one of the older restaurants in Bend Oregon. Jake's is the kind of restaurant I was taken to when I was a kid. This is serious down-home food. Rumors say it is the best breakfast in town and I believe it. Lunch and Dinner are darned good as well. Jake's has just about any kind of hamburger you can think of including a 1-pounder. Then the dinner menu has Grilled Pork Loin Chops, Liver and Onions, and Pot Roast as well as chicken and fish dishes. They claim they will make any entree as low carb as possible. All you have to do is ask. The prices here are reasonable. No alcohol is served.

McKay Cottage Restaurant and Bakery
McKay Cottage is one of the best restaurants in Bend Oregon for breakfast and lunch. Favorite breakfast dishes are the Stuffed Croissant French Toast and Eggs Benedict. Lunch items are sandwiches, salads, and soup. The Cheeseburger is a classic with a nice thick meat patty. They also serve a Grilled Chicken Panini with cherry-fig chutney and a Classic Monte Crisco with strawberry preserves. You can get something delicious to take home with you at the bakery such as muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, pecan sticky buns and homemade desserts.
On warm days you can sit out in the garden.

The food at The Victorian Cafe is so good that people are willing to wait over an hour to be seated. They don't take reservations. Of special note are the Eggs Benedict or so I am told. I won't wait an hour for a table at any restaurant so I will probably never know. I don't know, maybe I'll try it on a weekday at 7 am when they open. It is the breakfasts that people rave about.

Baldy's on Century Drive is the best place to go for Barbecued Ribs for both lunch and dinner. These are fall-off-the-bone meaty ribs and the sauce is wonderful. If you don't want to eat them there they do have take out and delivery.
The Blacksmith is a great place to go for a steak and a draft beer but even better are the desserts. You can get a dessert sampler for four or six people that is out of this world. So maybe eat your dinner here or somewhere else, see a movie, and drop back here for a nice dessert. This is one of the restaurants in Bend Oregon that I cannot pass up. Not for the steak but for the dessert.
Note: Children are not allowed after 9:30 pm so if you are family dining go early enough to be finished by then. I think it has something to do with their liquor license.
