Portland breweries have quite a reputation for their hand crafted beer. Portland brewpubs are a good place to go for lunch or dinner or just spend an afternoon or evening sampling the different brews. If you are a beer lover, you can't visit Portland without trying Portland beer.
Here is a selection of the best Portland brewpubs arranged by area.
Founded in 1984 by brothers Kurt and Rob Widmer, the craft brewery is one of the largest in Oregon. It's best known and most popular beer is its Hefeweizen.
The Hefeweizen is the brewery's most popular beer. It is also the most popular hefeweizen in the Pacific northwest region. You can take a free tour of the brewery.
On Fridays tours are at 3:00 pm and on Saturdays at 11:00 am and 12:30 pm. You need a reservation and you can get one by calling 503-281-2437.
You can sample their beers at the Gasthaus Pub. They offer six beers in their "Core Lineup" and an additional selection which changes from day to day. You can order a sampling of six for tasting which gives you six 4 oz servings of your choice of beers.
The Gasthaus Pub is open for both lunch and dinner. The menu is huge and includes appetizers, soup and salad, burgers, sandwiches, pasta, and full dinner entrees such as scnitzels, steaks, meatloaf and more. If you are not a beer drinker they also serve wine and you might like to try their own homemade root beer.

As with most breweries with hand-crafted beers, the names spike your interest. Here the most popular beer is British Bombay I.P.A. But it is the Hot Tamale that interests me.
This is one brewpub that actually has fish and chips on the food menu. Other offerings include hand made pizza, chilli, burritos, hamburgers, deli subs, and pasta dishes.
