Newport, Oregon

Newport--Everything you could possibly want in an Oregon Coast Vacation.

If you are going to spend more than a day on the Oregon Coast you may want to choose a place as a "base of operations" so you can see as much as possible without changing lodging every day. This area is a good choice because there are lots of things to see and do in the town itself and nearby. You can then, with a short drive, also visit Yachats, Depoe Bay, and Lincoln City.

It is an easy and scenic drive to the area from Salem, Corvallis, and Eugene. If you fly your own airplane, there is an airport south of the city. Here is the FAA information for the Municipal Airport. http://www.airnav.com/airport/KONP Rental cars are available from ROBBEN RENT-A-CAR & AUTO SALES. Phone: 541-574-6055 tollfree 1-800-305-5530.

Now your main reason for going to Newport is the ocean and the beaches. You won't be disappointed.

Beach activities include beachcombing, agate hunting, surfing, fossil hunting, kite flying, whale watching, surfcasting, rock fishing, kayak tours, and observing sea life in the tidepools. Plus clamming, scuba diving, crabbing and windsurfing.

While you are enjoying the beaches you just might find a glass float. If you are really, really lucky it will be one that

fell off a Japanese fishing boat in the coastal waters of Japan and floated the Japanese Current all the way to Oregon. Or it just might be one made by Pyromania Glass in Newport.

Other Newport Oregon attractions include:

  • Yaquina Head Lighthouse

  • Agate Beach Golf Course

  • Rogue Ale Brewery

  • Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area

  • Wax Works

  • Ripley's Believe It or Not

  • Oregon Undersea Gardens

  • Oregon Coast Aquarium

  • Historic and Romantic Nye Beach

  • Seafood and Wine Festival

  • Fishing boat charters

The town is full of interesting shops and art galleries. From vintage clothing, sports clothing, decorative items for the home, books, paintings, and art glass to photographs, you can shop for hours if that is your thing. The historic Nye Beach neighborhood is particularly good for this and it has parking right next to the beach. Here is more information on the fun things to do.

You have a full choice of lodging from cabins, cottages, bed and breakfast, motels, and hotels including luxury hotels. The nearby state parks offer exceptional camping facilities for both RV's and tents. Yurts are also available. There are several private RV parks as well.

When you are here you just have to stop in at Mo's for a bowl of its famous clam chowder. But there are lots of other

excellent places to dine. If your lodging has a kitchen and you want to cook your own dinners, you can't beat the fresh fish available at the Fish Peddler's Market.

Do Kids Have Fun In Newport?

You had better believe it. Watch this video from UTube and see how much fun four children from the age of four and up had. The smiles on their faces are priceless. This is less than 4 minutes long.
