Multnomah Falls - Columbia River Gorge

by Mandy
(Red Bluff, California)

Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls

Every time I find myself in or passing through the state of Oregon, the trip just isn't complete without visiting Multnomah Falls. I've lived in California all my life, but my mom is from Spokane, WA. So as far back as I can remember, each year we would take a two week driving vacation to see all the relatives between here and there, and it was tradition to stop and spend an hour or two at Multnomah Falls.

It goes without saying that Oregon is a lush, beautiful state, but every time I stop at the Falls I get that refreshing sense of peace that nature tends to fill you with. There's a bridge at the base of it that you walk up a trail to
get to, and when I was a kid that was as far up as my mom would take me and my siblings. I would see people that would hike to the very top, which seemed like miles and miles away, and every year I would tell my mom that when I was big enough we were going to hike all the way up.

We still haven't made it, but I haven't forgotten. I think I'll always have a fondness for Multomah Falls because of my childhood memories, but it's nice to have places like that which remind you of family.
