Cannon Beach Hotels. Cannon Beach is the favorite place to visit on the Oregon coast for many and lodging is in high demand.
Cannon Beach has a wide sandy beach with tide pools around Haystack Rock which is one of the most photographed scenes in Oregon. Surfing has become popular on this beach and there is a surf shop in town where you can rent everything you need and even arrange for surfing lessons.
Adjacent to the town to the north is Ecola State Park with spectacular views both north and south. Ecola Park, a great place for a picnic, is now incorporated into the Lewis and Clark National Historic Park. There is a $5 day-use charge.
To the north is the town of Seaside which also has a very long sandy beach and a promenade. There are lots of electronic game parlors which the kids will enjoy.
Five miles to the south of Cannon Beach is Hug Point State Park. You will find easy access to the beach and a picnic area. There are no fees for using the park.
Also ten miles to the south is Oswald State Park, one of Oregon's most beautiful state parks. You walk one half mile through old growth forest to Short Sands Beach which is popular with surfers. There is a beautiful picnic area which over looks the beach. There are 13 miles of hiking trails in the park including one to the top of Neah-Kah-Nie Mountain.
The town itself is full of interesting shops and boutiques where you can spend hours. There are the usual tourist souvenir stores but there are also some great specialty clothing stores, and art galleries. One store you do not want to miss is Bruce's Candy Kitchen where you will find the best salt water taffy on the coast.
On Tuesdays, June through September, you can enjoy the Cannon Beach Farmer's Market. Here you will find hand-crafted treasures, fresh seafood, home-grown beef, organic cheese, and flowers. It is held in the midtown area and is a good place to get a delicious lunch from the food vendors.
Cannon Beach is a small and very charming town. That and its beautiful beach make it one of the most popular destinations on the Oregon Coast. Because of the high demand for hotel rooms, it is wise to make your reservation early in the year if you are planning on visiting during the summer months.
