Oregon Sand Dunes

Camping on the Oregon Dunes is a fun experience for just about everyone because there is a campground to suit everyone. If you just want peace and quiet and walks on the dunes to enjoy the views and wildlife, there is a campground for you. If it is riding your horses that you want to do, there is a campground for you also. There are also campgrounds for all of you ORV/ATV enthusiasts. Oregon Dunes camping is some of the best on the Oregon Coast.



Oregon Dunes KOA

This is the only private campground with ATV/ORV access to the Oregon Dunes. It is located on Highway 101 between Coos Bay and Reedsport at Mile Marker 229. It is a full service campground with spaces for RV's and tents. They also have one- and two-bedroom camping cabins which come with beds, porch with swing, barbecue, fire pit, and picnic table. Some of the tent sites have water, electricity, and TV hookups others have water near by. The tent sites have picnic tables and fire rings.All sites have free wireless hookup.

The access to the dunes for ORV's is 0.6 miles from the camp. It is a gravel road.

If you don't have your own ORV there are three ATV rental places within 10 minutes of the park.

If you have no interest in doing the ORV thing and just want to use your feet, sand access is just 15 minutes away by car.

This campground has a store for those things you forgot to bring or ran out of unexpectedly. There are also laundry facilities and a camp kitchen. This campground is open all year round for your Oregon Dunes camping fun.

Horseback Riding Oregon Dunes

Wild Mare Horse Camp

Just 1/2 mile from the beach, this is the place for camping on the Oregon Dunes if you want to ride your horses by the ocean. There are 12 corral sites. The maximum trailer length is 50 feet. Picnic tables, fire rings, potable drinking water, and vault toilets are provided.

It is open year round but reservations are only taken for May through September for 10 sites.

The camp is close toe the Bluebill Campground mentioned below and the loop trail around Bluebill Lake can also be used for riding.

To get there traveling north on Highway 101 from North Bend for 1 1/2 milAes, turn left on Jordan Cove Road. The camp is on Horsfall Road.E.

ORV's are not allowed in this campground for obvious reasons.

Camping on the Oregon Dunes for Peace and Quiet

Dunes with Trees

Eel Creek Campground

No ORV's are allowed here so this is another campground for camping on the Oregon Dunes if you want peace and quiet. ORV's are also kept away from the dunes adjacent to the campground.

There is a three-mile hike on the Umqua Dunes Trail to the Pacific Ocean which is of moderate to very difficult. There are 52 sites here with each site surrounded by vegetation to give you some privacy. It is open from May to September for bothtents and RV's. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Potable water and flush toilets are available.

It is located 10 miles south of Reedsport on Highway 101.

Bluebill Campground

is a nice quiet place to camp if you are not interested in ORV'S. It is small with 18 sites for tents and RV's. It is located beside Bluebill Lake which is good for fishing until late summer when the water level is low. There is a nice hike around the lake which is a little over a mile long and of moderate difficulty.

The campsites have picnic tables and fire rings. Drinking water and flush toilets are available.

You can get to this campground by traveling north on Highway 101 from North Bend for 1 1/2 miles and turning left on Jordan Cove Road. Follow the signs about 1 1/2 miles.

Camping on the Oregon Dunes for ORV/ATV Enthusiasts

Dune Buggies

Spinreel OHV Campground

This one is for OHV enthusiasts. It is one of the more sheltered campground weatherwise along this stretch of the dunes. It is open all year. There are 36 sites all of which are good for tents but not all will take a large RV. Also you want to make sure your site is long enough to accomodate your auto plus trailer as the sites are not all wide enough to park your trailer along side your auto. All sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Potable water and flush toilets are available. Restrooms, campsites and water are disabled accessable. Of course, the dunes are accessable by OHV and there is a trail that leads to the beach.

To get there drive 11 miles south of Reedsport and turn on Spinreel Road. Drive 1/2 mile to campground.

Horsfall Beach OHV Campground

This looks more like a huge parking lot than a campground and really that is what it is with spaces marked out on the asphalt. The good thing about it is that it is right on the beach. The bad part about this is that you are open to the weather--wind. Nevertheless, you have direct access to the dunes. You can get a really large RV in here.

Tent camping is available in the sand around the perimeter of the paved area. Here you will have picnic tables, fire rings, potable water, and flush toilets.

To get there go north on Highway 101 from North Bend 1 1/2 miles and turn left on

Jordan Cove Road. Follow the signs.

Horsfall OHV Campground

This campground is also paved like the one above with tent sites around the perimeter. A lot of the sites are too short for RV's with trailers. Picnic tables, fire rings, potable water, showers, and flush toilets are available for tent sites. There is direct OHV dune access.

To get there go north on Highway 101 from North Bend 1 1/2 miles and turn left on

Jordan Cove Road. Follow the signs.

Camping on the Oregon Dunes for Fishermen and Hikers

Campsite

Carter Lake Campground

This campground is eleven miles south of Florence and is good for people who just want to camp, fish, hike, and beachcomb. Trails go through the dunes to the beach.

There is no vehicle access to the dunes and no OHV/ATV's are allowed in the camp. The maximum length for vehicle and one towed vehicle is 35 feet and car top boats only. Some sites overlook the lake.

This park is open only May through September. Each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Potable water is available and there are flush toilets.

Lagoon Campground

Located seven miles south of Florence beside a lagoon and near the Siltcoos River, this campground is popular with fishermen. The maximum vehicle length including tow is 35 feet. Flush toilets are provided as well as picnic tables and fire rings at each site. The sites are shaded

There are viewing platforms on the adjacent Lagoon trail that provide views of the wetlands and wildlife. The Waxmyrtle trail follows the Siltcoos River to the beach which is one mile away. Siltcoos Lake, the largest lake on the cental Oregon coast, is two miles away.

ATV at Beach

Tahkenitch Campground

Situated 1/4 mile from Lake Tahkenitch, the campsites are located between tall Douglas Fir Trees with two small lakes close by. There is trail access to the dunes.

There is potable water and flush toilets with picnic tables and fire rings at each site. It is open May through September.

Drive on Highway 101 7.5 miles north of Reedsport.

Tahkenitch Landing Campground

As its name implies, there is a boat ramp here and fishing is popular on Tahkenitch Lake. The boat ramp has been closed for replacement but is due to open again the middle of August, 2007.

Campsites are set amid tall Douglas Fir trees. The maximum vehicle length is 25 feet. There is no water here. Vault toilets are available and pinic tables and fire rings are at each site. Some sites are next to the lake. A boat trailer parking area is available. The campground is open all year and reservations are accepted May through September.

Tyee Campground

A small campground on the Siltcoos River six miles south of Florence. This campground will take tents and small RV's. There is a boat ramp for the river.

Potable water and vault toilets are available. There are picnic tables and fire rings at each site.

Drive south from Florence six miles and turn left on Pacific Avenue.

The campground is open May through September.

Waxmyrtle Campground

Another good place for camping on the Oregon Dunes if you are a fisherman. Waxmyrtle is located near the Siltcoos River in shorepine. There are 19 pull-through sites. Drinking water and flush toilets are available. There are picnic tables and fire rings at each site.

This campground is open May through September.

Drive seven miles south of Florence and turn west on Siltcoos Beach Access Road.

Camping on the Oregon Dunes for OHV Riders

Driftwood II OHV Campground

This is another one of those giant parking lot style campgrounds with tent sites around the perimeter. There is direct OHV dune access and the beach is only 1/2 mile away. Tent sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Potable drinking water, flush toilets and showers are available.

Drive seven miles south of Florence and turn west on Siltcoos Beach Access Road. The campground is 1.5 miles down this road.
